ROAR: The ’90s Rave Podcast goes dark as our special ‘MC month’ continues with a ‘Rhymes and Crimes’ special with Moving Shadow‘s resident host MC Flux, which peels back the dark underbelly of the ’90s rave scene.

In this shocking two-part interview, Flux – AKA Carl Thomas – tells how he went from the unforgiving, violent and poverty-stricken streets of 1980s South London to become one of the leading jungle and drum-and-bass MCs of the ’90s with a glamorous lifestyle to match.

But Flux will reveal how his A-lister existence hid a dark secret double-life as a violent and prolific football hooligan and drug trafficker who ran a team of dealers shifting thousands of ecstasy tablets every week – supplied, unbelievably, by notorious neo-Nazi organisation Combat 18.

It was a toxic combination that saw Thomas lose everything before turning his life around for good as a mentor for ex-offenders and gang members and music artist – and he tells us about it in this warts-and-all double-header.

In part one, Flux discusses coming through street sound systems to performing on rave main stages worldwide, his passion for football violence with his team Crystal Palace, and the impact the ’90s rave scene had on his illicit ‘hobby’, having guns pulled on him at dodgy events he played at, and the impact Bipolar Disorder has had on his life.
